Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources- on the Forefront
Session Chair: Prof. Charlie Hurburgh, Iowa State University

This session will focus on new uses and practical considerations of NIRS in one of its original applications – food and agriculture. In recent years, the agriculture sector has had increased productivity and economic success, due in large part to the emergence of biofuels as a driver for higher yields and new feed products. Most recently heightened concerns over food safety/traceability/adulteration have created new applications for NIRS. The food and agriculture session will feature a mixture of longstanding experts and graduate students, with an emphasis on the new NIRS-related science contained in each application. There will be a discussion session at the end, on what new science will be needed in the next 5-10 years -not necessarily new application – but new science)
